CHP 5 QUOTES
“If people don’t know how to process facts and make meaning
out of them, then the facts will stay right where they are: on the literature
table or in a museum.” People need to understand what facts are and what they
mean when they are presented to them. they need to make sense of it in their
own way/language. Sometimes facts can be confusing and depending on the way it’s
presented it could also be difficult to dissect, so it is important to make
sure when presenting facts, it is presented in a way that is accessible -to
everyone.
“In order to recall, understand, or use ideas, we need to be
able to attach them to other ideas.” We need to be able to connect our ideas with
ideas that we already know or have learned before. When we connect new
information with existing knowledge, it helps us remember and understand it better.
“As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of
the world change toward him.” The way one acts or sees themselves is how the
world sees them as well. If you change yourself, the world around you will
change as well. It’s about taking responsibility for
your own actions and not waiting for others to change first. When you change
your own nature, you become a better person, and this can have a positive
impact on those around you.
CHP 6 QUOTES
‘It is very, very difficult to persuade most people to give
up their old ways and try something new.” People are often resistant to change and
may be hesitant to try new things. Sometimes people are so stuck in their ways
that they refuse to see the bigger picture or even try to have an open mind and
look at things from a different perspective.
“When people don’t agree with us, and when they don’t change
their behaviors in the ways we’d like, we too often dismiss them as
bull-headed, ignorant, or even stupid.” Sometimes we too get stuck on our ways,
what we’re comfortable with and unable to accept or try to come to a common
ground because we want to prove that we are right and the way we want things,
that’s how they should be.
“It is important that our work acknowledges the various
costs people face and validates their fears and doubts.” Sometimes when we want
people to do certain things, we don’t always realize what’ll cost an individual.
We always want people to support our causes, but do we understand what someone has
to lose, or their fears. Do we know what sacrifices have been made in order for
them to be there.
