This Is What I Know About Art by Kimberly Drew

"She assured everyone on the tour that we don't have to subscribe to anyone else's idea of success."
This statement particularly resonated with me because Kimberly Drew often felt that society dictates to us the meaning of success; however, here, Sandra is reassuring Kimberly that we as individuals should define what success looks, feels, and smells like and not society nor our own parents. While I was growing up, my parents would quite often define for me what their definition of success according to our cultural standards, which I I never paid them any mind. I was raised to think for myself even if it means that I challenged cultural norms and traditions.

"If there is one thing that you can do leave something for somebody else. You can work for somebody else's freedom. You can leave something for somebody else's child."
This is another powerful statement because we are all interconnected in some way, shape, or form in this lifetime. Quite often we might feel apathetic because with all of the social injustices that exist today, we might feel that it does not affect or impact us. Truth be told, another person's experience can have an affect on us whether we know it or not because perhaps if more people felt empathetic towards others, just maybe, this world might be a better place with less suffering? I have always felt that if you are able to help another person, you not only change that person's outlook towards life; however, you can also affects those who are connected to that person as well.
